Why Graphic Design CVs Get Rejected?

Plenty talented and capable graphic designers notice their CVs filed within the circular file bin also called the recycling bin. The question is - why do these educated and gifted designers get their graphic design CVs rejected by employers? Generally speaking, most CVs get rejected because they are created by designers who just started searching for a job.

One of the 1st mistakes that several designers build when hunting for their first job as a designer is that they, unfortunately, try to show their talent inside their CV, not through informative description, but through fancy graphics and styles. Graphic design CVs ought to be straightforward and professional in order to get processed. In a real world people who employ designers tend to look for talented professionals that aren't only great artists. You must stay professional and organized - that's common rule. Do not include any fancy fonts, graphics, and shining styles along your CVs. I agree they will grab the eye of the hiring managers, however that is not the right way of writing a right CV and they will be immediately laughed at and rejected.

How to Create a Graphic Design CV?

The best way to present your skills, experience, and education for potential employers and customers is to create a graphic design portfolio as an addition to your graphic design CV. When creating your CV you must remember about one very important thing - your portfolio is a separate item. Do not try to present your design skills within your CV. Suppress your love to design and get rid of fancy fonts, unnecessary graphics, page borders, or graphic page dividers. Simplicity is the key of designing your CV, so keep it easy to understand, professional, and organized.

Whatever the job position you are applying for, the graphic design CV should be tailored to present those skills which are needed and requested by the employer. It is not bad, and really a good plan, to keep a stock CV obtainable, updating it whenever you modify positions or complete a major freelance project. However, you must stay prepared to tailor your presentation and look of your graphic design CV depending on the job opportunity you hunting.

Graphic Design Software - The Battle

The times when a graphic designer's most common tools were pen, pencil and brush are gone. Today, the way a designer works on daily basis is different to what was before and it is mostly based on graphic design software which has some good and bad sides. At some point or other, our design environment forces us to upgrade the present software to newer version or to switch to a different program. And then, the graphic designer must learn the new interface, new functions of that version of program. All of that makes the learning process very expensive and time-consuming. But this is not the end as in the graphic design world we need to use different software for web design, print design, illustration, and photography.

In the 90's and in early 0's of this century, the most used desktop publishing program was Quark Xpress. Over the past decade, since the Adobe InDesign 2.0 lunched in 2002, we have seen a big change in the world of desktop publishing as Adobe's software has started ruling. If Adobe beats Quark it will pretty much gain a monopoly in graphic design software, bearing in mind that it has already acquired Macromedia and some other competition.

Web Design - 5 Important Points

When it comes to your web site and the way it should be designed, some extra attention must be paid to esure the web design performs optimally to serve its purpose. Please read through this article and learn about five important rules that are important to every web and to make sure your web site performs well.

1) Splash pages are bad in web design

Splash pages are the very first pages you see after you arrive at a web site. They normally have a really stunning image with words like "Hello" or "To Enter - Click here". The sad fact is, they're simply that - beautiful pictures that have no real goal in web design. I understand they are done to get a "Wow" effect but in reality they use Flash animations which load too long, so I personally quit the website if I have to wait more than few seconds to see the content. Don't let your guests have a reason to click on the "Go Back" button! Offer them the worth of your web site up front without using sloppy splash page.
